Yale Melanoma Awareness Symposium

New Haven, Conn.– Yale – New Haven Hospital and Yale Cancer Center will present a free symposium on melanoma for the public on Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – noon in the Anlyan Center at 300 Cedar Street in New Haven.  The event will be led by a multidisciplinary team of experts who will present the latest information on the impact of new technology and emerging knowledge on melanoma prevention, screening, detection, and treatment. 

Presentations will be made by members of the Yale Cancer Center Melanoma Program and will address topics such as Sun Exposure and Prevention, Skin Cancer Screening, the Surgical Management of Melanoma, Innovative Treatment Options, and New Research Initiatives.  The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion led by Dr. Harriet Kluger, Associate Professor of Medical Oncology.  Panelists will include Dr. Stephan Ariyan, Dr. Jean Bolognia, Dr. David J. Leffell, and Dr. Mario Sznol.

The Yale Cancer Center Melanoma Program is a multidisciplinary team developed over 25 years ago to discover new therapies and provide state-of-the-art treatment for patients with melanoma.  In order to achieve its objectives, the Melanoma Program brings together scientists, experts in clinical research, specialists in melanoma surgery, medical oncologists devoted to melanoma treatment, dermatologists, pathologists, dermatopathologists, and radiologists.  Yale Cancer Center is one of a select network of 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the country designated by the National Cancer Institute and the only one in southern New England.  For more information visit www.yalecancercenter.org
