Major employers include Yale University, Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET), Yale-New Haven Hospital, Hospital of Saint Raphael, and Southern Connecticut State University. Health Care
New Haven offers a first-rate health care system, which includes three of New England's top 50 hospitals: Yale-New Haven, the Hospital of St. Raphael and the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Arts/Culture/Recreational Opportunities
New Haven boasts a variety of cultural and arts offerings which include world-class theater and museums, as well as a fine symphony. There are myriad offerings from the excellent Yale School of Music and an active community arts and music scene. It is a cosmopolitan city that is home to people of diverse cultures. One can find restaurants that serve Italian, French, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, West Indian, Ethiopian, Mexican, American and Nouvelle Cuisine. Throughout the year pharmaceutical representatives sponsor lectures at one of the local restaurants for faculty and residents.
There are numerous recreational facilities within a few hours drive - public beaches on the Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts shores and skiing in Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire. There are also numerous outside activities throughout New England that include golfing, hiking, tennis, biking, rafting, and canoeing.
