THE VALUE OF THE X-RAY
"X-Ray of adult chest NEXT in importance is the use of the X-Ray. Positive X-Ray findings however slight, are frequently the means of substantiating the physical findings about which there may be a question in the physician's mind. It is no light matter to make an incorrect diagnosis in tuberculosis. The physician should weigh very carefully the value of whatever early signs or symptoms are presented and never discard them until checked by X-Ray findings. Without doubt too many early cases of tuberculosis progress to an incurable stage because the presenting signs and symptoms were not considered of enough importance to warrant an X-Ray examination. The X-Ray should always be interpreted by an expert. There are three types of X-Ray service available in New Haven: First, private service at standard rates; second, minimum rates, under a cooperative arrangement of the Department of Health with a group of X-Ray specialists, for patients unable to pay standard rates; third, free X-Ray through dispensary routine. |
