TEACHING THE MOTHER HOW AND WHAT TO BUY

Nurse and mother at the market

Much remains to be done after an adequate alowance has been obtained for the family. A mother who is accustomed to managing her household with a weekly deficit of $8.95 could not be expected to spend an adequate alowance wisely, without first having re ceived instructions in planning her expenditures. This can, in a measure, be done by the Public Health Nurse. A trained Home Economics worker, however, is the person undertaking this tremendously important task. An actual demonstration in buying will be o f a greater value to such a mother than much verbal instruction. This is likewise true in the preparation of foods, planning the menu, and making the children's garments.

Note that the Home Economics Worker is actually functioning in New Haven.
