Research Excellence in clinical care stems from advances in understanding the fundamental basis for abnormalities of the nervous system and the resulting development of new and more effective treatment strategies for nervous system disorders. For this reason, research remains an intergral part of the Department of Neurology. Members of the faculty in Neurology have a broad range of research interests that span the areas of molecular biology, electrophysiology, biophysics, pharmacology, molecular genetics, immunopathology, neurotransplantation and computational neuroscience as pertaining to nervous system disorders. The Department is highly committed to translation of basic research findings to the clinical domain and actively promotes productive interactions between clinicians and basic scientists, and provides resources for collaborative translational studies. Members of the faculty include world-renowned leaders in their fields of research who continue significantly to enhance the understanding of the nervous system and its disorders.
