You may print to the Medical Library's printers from your personal laptop computer. The initial setup, using the step-by-step directions below, will take a few minutes. After this initial setup, establishing your connection to the printing system will take only a few seconds each time you use your laptop in the Medical Library.
You will need to use a copy card to retrieve your printouts. The standard fee of 7 cents per page for the Information Room printers. Pages sent to the color printer are charged at 50 cents a page. More information about where and how to get your print jobs later.
These directions will tell you how to:
Sound complicated? It really isn't as long as you follow the step by step instructions. And you will need to run the initialization script and login each time you reconnect to the network in the library.
Please note that these directions were produced for Windows XP Professional Edition. You may notice slight differences if you have a different version of Windows but they should be essentially correct.
*** Before you begin, ensure you have an active connection (either wired or wireless) to the Yale Network.
The first you need to add the Medical Library Printer through Windows




Click on this linkand save the file called "medlibraryprinter.bat" to your computer. If your browser is Internet Explorer you'll see the "Save" option (pictured below). If you are using Firefox, the contents of the file will appear on the screen. Right click on the screen and choose "save page as" to save the file. Save the file under "My Documents" or in another folder on your hard disk. You will need to access the file in step 3 so take note of where you saved it.
Lastly, you need to create a shortcut on your desktop to the program. You will add your NetID to the file.



You are finished with the setup process!
You should now be able to print to the Information Room printers. Continue on to setup the Medical Library's color printer



You are almost ready to print!
Once you are connected to the network in the Library, double-click the "Medical Library Printer" shortcut icon you placed on your desktop. Enter your NetID password when prompted. Your connection to the printing system is established and will remain active until you reboot your computer.
Print as you normally would from any program. Obviously, you will want to choose the "Medical Library Printer" (or whatever name you assigned to the Medical Library printing system) from your list of possible devices.
Go to either Information Room Pay Station to retrieve your jobs. Insert your computer card and login to the paystation with your NetID. Print jobs will go to the printer nearest the paystation after you pay for them..
B&W Information Room Printer - Before you print two-sided documents you must set some printer options. Click the Windows Start button and select "Printers and Faxes". Right click on the entry for the Medical Library Printer (or whatever you called it) and select "Properties". Click on the "Device Settings” Tab. Change the settings in the section under "Installable Options" ; Change both "Tray 3" and "Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing)" to Installed

Color Printer - Before you print two-sided documents you must set some printer options. Click the Windows Start button and select "Printers and Faxes". Right click on the entry for the Medical Library COLOR Printer (or whatever you called it) and select "Properties". Click on the "Device Settings” Tab. Change the settings in the section under "Installable Options" ; Change both "Tray 3" and "Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing)" to Installed

Now the duplex printing option is enabled in your applications.
