ADMISSION AND APPLICATON PROCESS
Application for the Investigative Medicine Program is an on-line process and should be obtained from the Yale University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at http://www.yale.edu/graduateschool/index.html. For the 2010/2011 academic year, the application deadline is January 2, 2010. Prospective candidates who complete the application process will be reviewed by the Investigative Medicine Program Admissions Committee and those judged competitive for selection to the program will be invited to interview. The admissions committee and the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences make the final decision regarding admission to the Investigative Medicine Program. Acceptance notifications are generally sent by the end of March.

The Investigative Medicine Program requires the completion of a supplemental form in addition to the Graduate School application. The supplemental form is to be submitted electronically to the Program Registrar.

Application Materials
  1. Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences application form.
  2. Investigative Medicine Program Supplemental Form.
  3. Personal Statement of 500-1,000 words describing your reasons for applying to the Investigative Medicine Program, commitment to research, research goals, research experience, background, and interests.
  4. Three letters of recommendation: One letter must originate from a faculty member from your medical school or residency program. For applicants with previous research experience, an additional letter from previous research mentor is recommended.
  5. Official transcripts from all academic training (undergraduate and medical school). Applicants who have attended foreign institutions should submit transcripts with certified attestation of study with certified English translations.
  6. USMLE Examination Scores; Steps 1 and 2 (Step 3 if applicable). Specialty examinations of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Neurology, Psychiatry or other discipline. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores are NOT required.
  7. Curriculum Vitae.
  8. $95 Application Fee

Completed applications received by Investigative Medicine from Graduate School for review.
All application materials should be received by this date.

February 12, 2010
Applications reviewed and selected applicants will be invited for interviews by this date.

February 15 – March 19, 2010
In-person interviews are conducted on date scheduled in advance with applicant.

Week of March 22
Meeting of Investigative Medicine Admission Committee for candidate selection.

April 1, 2010
Applicants are generally notified of official admission decision for July 2010.
Official decision notification is made by the Graduate School.


April 15, 2010
Deadline for applicant responses for July 2010 offer of admission.

June 2010
New student orientation takes place at the end of June.

July 2010
Required course work begins in early July.
