The Yale Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program (YOEMP) was founded in 1979 by its current director, Dr. Mark R. Cullen. Its current mission is threefold:


Clinical Services:

  • out-patient services in our downtown New Haven location
  • in-patient consultation services at Yale-New Haven Hospital
  • regional resource to physicians, governmental and regulatory agencies, industries, trade unions and environmental organizations
  • worksite surveys or hazard evaluations
  • industrial medical services to numerous corporate clients

  • Educational Opportunities/ Fellowship Training

  • didactic teaching for medical, public health and graduate students in occupational and environmental health.
  • elective rotations for medical students and residents from nearby teaching hospitals
  • continuing education for practitioners, workers, employers and other professionals

  • Research Activities:

  • epidemiologic, clinical and experimental laboratory investigations
  • collaborations are ongoing with investigators in many departments at Yale as well at other well-known institutions
  • SPRAY: Survey of Painters and Repairers of Autobodies by Yale

  • meet our multi-disciplinary faculty and staff

  • available through the Yale-New Haven Medical Center and through networks with other occupational and environmental health organizations
