Our lab’s studies focus on multiple aspects of tsetse flies, the vector of African trypanosomes. These trypanosomes are the causative agents of the devastating Sleeping Sickness disease in Sub-Saharan Africa. The lab’s work covers a range of projects including tsetse immunity and reproduction, tsetse-symbiont interactions and tsetse-trypanosome interactions. The ultimate goal of this work is to improve current strategies and/or develop novel strategies to reduce or eliminate the transmission of Sleeping Sickness in Sub-Saharan Africa.
