Give young children
the opportunity too, first ride on a riding toy, then on
a tricycle and then a small bike with training wheels. Provide
the opportunity for lots of practice.
Fun activities to do with children
- Create a track in
your yard, basement or garage.
- Allow young children
to ride on city sidewalks, park paths, off road trails,
or in a yard.
- Set up an obstacle
course: place cones or coffee cans with flags in a path
that encourages
steering and stopping practice.
- Bring children to
a park in your community to ride
his/her bike.
The
day will come when the child will be riding alone so begin
to talk about safety rules of the road. Always have young
children wear a bike helmet!! Children should also wear
knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards!!
