Letters and Writing

Talk to young children about the letters in the alphabet. Explain by putting certain letters together can make words and words make sentences. Explain the everyday importance in writing notes and filling dates in on the calendar. If a child seems interested in writing draw lines, and even her name, on paper for her to copy.

Visit Kids on the Net (http://www.kidsonthenet.com) is one of the oldest and foremost sites on the Net for children's writing. It features writing by children at home and at school all over the world. It is part of the trAce Online Writing Centre http://trace.ntu.ac.uk based at Nottingham Trent University, UK. Visit Creative Writing for tips on writing poems, stories and much much more information!

Word Central is the place on the Web where kids can learn how much fun words can be! We've developed this site with input from teachers around the country using a language arts curriculum framework.

Public Libraries offer great storybooks for kids, which will help you to talk with your child about letters and writing. Your FREE library card from your local branch will let you take books from any library in Connecticut. Many have great children’s sections with toys, computers, storytimes, and special events. They lend a variety of FREE and reduced-price passes to area museums, check your local branch for details.
